Product Description

Four mini workshops with 24 patterns and spectacular photography in this compilation help knitters think creatively, find inspiration in their surroundings, and shape those elements into garment design. Stunning patterns are arranged by season, reflecting the colors and beauty of nature that inspire feminine designs. From an amber-beaded cardigan that captures the feeling of hay fields drying in the sun to a long, belted coat with a spray of coral roses inspired by flowers in local markets to an intarsia jacket that evokes memories of a fall hike in a forest, each pattern is rich with color, detailing, and romantic knitting style. The design workshops throughout this guidebook challenge knitters to find inspiration in their surroundings, build color palettes, swatch creatively through knitting and sketching, and finesse their style and fit.

I just finished knitting the SnowDrift Cardigan (pattern shown on the book cover), with a few alterations of my own. It is no understatement to say that these handknits are 'exquisite'.I used a completely different yarn and added a skirt at the bottom. The yarn proposed by Michelle is very yummy however I had a big stash and thought I'd better make use of it if I did not want to attract comments about my knitting addiction from the household members (i.e. my husband). To get a more lacy look and mid season garment I used yarn a bit smaller than the recommended weight.I also changed the closure mechanism. The original has a zip which gives the garment a very sporty look but I prefer the more feminine look so I pulled out my Nicky Epstein "Knitting Beyond the Edge: Cuffs and Collars*Necklines*Hems*Closures - The Essential Collection of Decorative Finishes" book and picked a closure with a cable motif to match Michelle's beautiful cable. The result is totally congruent and wasn't so far off the original pattern. The instructions I thought were pretty clear. The imagery very inspiring. The close up shot of the cable pattern on the front cover kept me going when I embarked on the skirt extension.I recommend her work to anyone who is looking for something stylish and feminine. One of the reviews about this book says that it is not for anyone looking for something contemporary. That would be quite correct, although if you are prepared to alter the patterns a bit this book would still be a good basis for inspiration. The patterns are of a good intermediate level, not too hard for anyone determined enough but a probably too challengening for beginners. So here goes: 5 stars from me for the SnowDrift Cardigan.Thank you Michelle.I've also completed the Whisper Cuff Cardigan from the same book. Divine!!!PS: I'll see if there is a way to upload pictures so you can see how my sweater turned out.PPS: My husband loves this cardigan too!
